Creative Scents, Candles & More!

The Best Scents, For Less Cents!

Why Soy?

Candles are made from various substances. They can be made from paraffin, soy, gel, beeswax or tallow.

Parafin is an oil-based product and most candles are made from paraffin, however, as with oil, when burned, the paraffin smokes and leaves an oily residue.

Beeswax is made from the waxy substances of bees hives.

Soy wax is made from soy beans and they are grown locally. It has a vegetable base. It burns clean and long and leaves no residue.

There are other plant waxes and tallow (a byproduct of beef fat rendering). Gel candles are made from a mixture of paraffin and plastic.

I prefer working with soy wax because it is cleaner and longer burning if used correctly. In my jars with lids I cover the jar when I extinguish the flame so it is smokeless. Besides, it is also easier to work with.

Soy is grown locally so I am supporting Iowa farmers. I also use local vendors for my supplies.
